This event is part of the project “Fact-Check Thailand 2026: Empowering Society Against Disinformation in Election Reporting,” which conducted intensive training for regional journalists, youth, and civil society participants from 19–22 November. The programme aimed to strengthen fact-checking skills in line with international standards.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wilaiwan Jongwilaikasaem, Head of the Radio–Television and Digital Media Division, Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Thammasat University, and Project Director, stated that this initiative stems from a four-party collaboration involving the German Embassy, Thammasat University, Thai PBS, and Cofact Thailand. Together, they are working to elevate information-verification standards to better confront the various forms of disinformation expected to intensify ahead of the 2026 general election.

These competencies are essential for both national and regional journalists. Together, they form the core processes required for reporting on political parties and candidates, ensuring that the public receives accurate information for making informed choices in the 2026 general election.” Assoc. Anticipating the Results: Fact-Check Thailand Award 2026, A National Stage Showcasing Outstanding Verification Talent

The atmosphere at the Fact-Check Thailand 2026 training: Empowering society to combat misinformation in election reporting.
One of the highlights of the event is the announcement of the “Fact-Check Thailand Award 2026,” featuring a total of 60,000 THB in prizes together with honorary plaques. The submissions from 45 participants nationwide will be evaluated across six categories.
These works were created through hands-on training, using a variety of verification tools, analyzing evidence, and conducting real-world investigations into misinformation. The process enabled emerging media practitioners to truly understand the role and responsibilities of a “fact-checker.”
- The Best Checking: Honors a fact-checking piece that demonstrates strong issue relevance, a transparent and verifiable process, and public-impactful presentation.
- Policy Checking: Recognizes an outstanding policy-verification piece distinguished by its issue significance, credible methodology, and effective presentation that clarifies public understanding.
- Fact Checking: Honors a fact-checking piece that excels in methodological rigor, source reliability, effective use of digital verification tools, and socially responsible presentation.
- Photo Checking: Awards a photo-verification piece that holds significant social relevance, employs appropriate verification tools, and demonstrates a systematic and credible investigative process.
- The Creative Checking: Recognizes a creatively crafted fact-checking work that excels in innovative presentation, public reach, and a credible verification process.
- Fact Checker Award: Presented to the fact-checker who submits the highest number of verified reports.
All awards will be announced at the Talk for Truth event. This serves as a meaningful and challenging test that allows participants to fully understand the true role of a fact-checker. The outcomes of this initiative will contribute directly to more accurate, responsible, and effective reporting for the 2026 general election.

Another highlight of the event is a knowledge-sharing forum featuring six distinguished speakers from various fields. They will offer insights, share perspectives on the multifaceted challenges of misinformation, and point the way toward a transparent and fair electoral process. Their contributions aim to help Thai society move toward making decisions based on accurate and reliable information. Examples include:
